Google presents Gemini 3 Pro on 18 November, Anthropic Claude Opus 4.5 on 24 November. Six days between two models, both announced as the best their house has to offer.
November 2025 brought two releases, each of which would have been news in its own right — and which then arrived almost simultaneously.

What was new about it — and what was not
The interesting part is not that both models are better than their predecessors. That is the case with every release. The interesting part is the gap: six days.
Anyone making a model choice in November 2025 made it in a market that had shifted twice in the same week.
This did not remain a snapshot. In February 2026, four models arrived in two weeks. November was the beginning of a rhythm, not the exception.
What that means for a business
For companies deploying AI, an uncomfortable insight follows: the choice of model is no longer a matter of principle but a snapshot. Anyone who builds their system so that changing model means a week's work will not do it — and will be working with outdated technology in twelve months' time.

A side finding that came up while checking this article, and one that many people trip over: the technical identifier of Claude Opus 4.5 is «claude-opus-4-5-20251101» and contains 1 November. But that is the point at which the model weights were frozen — not the day of release. Anyone reading release dates off model identifiers gets it wrong.
